Citywide Affordable Housing Zoning Overlay – 2019

Cambridge is considering a citywide affordable housing zoning overlay. You can check out the link here. It looks like building heights and density could increase citywide. Please consider coming to the meetings and ask questions (see schedule below).

The goal is to enable 100%–affordable housing development to better compete with market–rate development. This will allow an an as-of-right* permitting option for projects that are 100%-affordable.

* As-of-Right Development: Complies with all applicable zoning regulations and does not require any discretionary action by the Planning Board or Board of Zoning Appeals.

The City is hosting several meetings on the 100%-Affordable Housing Zoning Overlay proposal. Staff from the Community Development Department will be available at these sessions to answer questions and discuss the proposal.

Updated Neighborhood Profiles by Community Development Department.

The Community Development Department has released an updated Neighborhood Statistical Profile covering all thirteen of the City’s neighborhoods. It’s an 84-page pdf document. The Riverside neighborhood (Area 7) profile begins on page 33 of the document. Riverside, with a land area of 202 acres, comprises 4.9% of the city area but contains 12% of the population. Using the profile and other documents, data and analysis can be added to a static page on this site. Anyone who is interested in contributing, let me know.
